Goalkeeper biding his time on loan at Rangers

HUDDERSFIELD Town goalkeeper Ryan Schofield is having to be patient during his loan spell at Scottish Premiership side Livingston.

He played against Rangers in the middle of last month when he made some spectacular saves in the 1-0 defeat and his rival for the shirt was ineligible against his parent club. But since then the 20-year-old has been an unused substitute in the club’s last three matches.

He is being kept out by Rangers prospect Robby McCrorie, who was on loan at Queen of the South earlier in the season, for a run in which Livingston have picked up just two points from nine.

Schofield made his Championship debut for Town against Middlesbrough back in November, having played in the Carabao Cup against Lincoln

City at the start of the campaign and has been loaned to Livingston to enhance his development.

Liverpool loan keeper Kamil Grabara was No.1 pick for Town before his injury, with Schofield and, more recently, Joel

Coleman providing back-up.

Town, of course, signed Jonas Lossl back from Everton on loan in January.

Schofield is viewed as potentially Town’s No.1 stopper in the not-too-distant future, so it will be interesting to see who gets the Livi shirt against Hearts on Sunday, the 21-year-old McCrorie or Schofield.

Meanwhile, Ben Hamer kept a first clean sheet in six matches on loan at Derby County as the Rams defeated Blackburn

Rovers 3-0 at Pride Park.

And Florent Hadergjonaj helped his Turkish Super Lig side Kasimpasa to a biggest win of the season - and it was a vital one against bottom club Kayserispor.

Hadergjonaj and Co won 5-1 and are now third from bottom and within striking distance of a handful of clubs above them.

DANNY Cowley has never made any secret about his desperation to have Alex Pritchard back available for selection.

The creative midfielder’s longstanding absence with a knee cyst left the Town boss to look beyond his preference to play 4-2-3-1.

Pritchard’s comeback in November lasted just three games, forcing the Cowleys to bring in Arsenal loanee Emile Smith Rowe.

The teenager has been excellent, and has allowed Town to play more or less the same formation over their last 10 games - with two exceptions.
