Work at high speed!
A BUSINESS workspace deep in the rural Holme Valley which was more low-tech than hi-tech has beaten the curse of the slow internet.
The Tech Holmfirth – the former Technical Institute which later became an adult education centre – is now a hub for coworking.
CoWork@TheTech is a place for people including freelancers, students and homeworkers who want an alternative workspace.
However, the speed of the internet connection was always a problem until specialists from Stix Internet, a rural internet service provider, were called in.
Now a faster connection means The Tech can now attract more home-based workers or small businesses, especially creatives who need to move large data files around.
Director at The Tech Jael Williams said: “CoWork@The Tech has been one of those ‘best kept secrets,’ as we knew the internet speed needed to be as fast or faster than at home. Now we are thrilled that we can guarantee fast wifi thanks to Stix Internet’s connectivity.
“The space was designed for people who want to work along like-minded people. It is in a great location at the centre of Holmfirth and offers creativity and support in a beautiful environment.
“There are also opportunities for networking and possible collaboration, bringing people and companies together. Now with our high speed wifi we are also able to offer some of fastest connectivity in the valley.”
Tony Armitage, of Stix Internet, said: “The
Tech is a great hub of creativity and CoWork@TheTech is lovely space in which to work but it needed fast and reliable internet access.
“The Holme Valley is one of those rural locations that finds this a challenge. We were very pleased that The Tech approached us and we have given them a solution that lets them provide everyone using The Tech with the wi-fi speeds they need.”
The Tech – based in Huddersfield Road – is now able to support any company that needs to work with data heavy files.
The co-working space is available on a regular basis or for one-off visits. It offers coworkers a desk, free wi-fi, company and a cuppa, with opportunities to share knowledge, ideas and connections.
Freelancers, small businesses and selfemployed sole traders can test the space for free on First Time Friday.
