Two more held over shooting of 12-year-old boy
TWO more arrests have been made by police investigating the shooting of a 12-year-old boy in Brackenhall.
Two youths aged 16 and 17 were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in the Huddersfield area last night following the shooting at the Northfield Hall Community Centre on Norfolk Avenue, on the evening of Tuesday, March 10.
The 12-year-old boy, who is a Year 8 pupil at All Saints College, Bradley Bar, continues to be treated for potentially life-changing injuries.
West Yorkshire Police officers were called to Northfield Hall at 7.15pm on Tuesday following a report of a disturbance there.
Shortly afterwards a 12-year-old boy arrived at hospital having been shot.
DCI Vanessa Rolfe of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, who is leading the enquiry, said: “Our investigations into this very serious incident are progressing with five males now arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
“We very much do continue to appeal for witnesses, however, both to the discharge and to the BMW car the suspects fled in being abandoned in Edale Avenue after the incident.
“We continue to urge anyone who can assist enquiries to get in touch.”
A parent said a chilling video of the lead-up to the shooting was circulating among pupils at the school he attends.
She said: “Apparently a few boys were messing about enjoying an ad hoc boxing match, then the shooters arrived and everyone scattered.
“It sounds terrifying.”
