Surgery in coronavirus
DOCTORS GOES INTO LOCKDOWN AND CONTINGENCY PLANS TRIGGERED AT UNIVERSITY
A GP surgery yesterday went into emergency lockdown amid Coronavirus fears.
Salendine Nook Surgery in Huddersfield was closed with a sign in the window that read: “This surgery is under emergency lockdown. We are closed.
“Please contact the surgery by telephone if you feel your condition is an emergency.”
As the Government prepared the public for further stringent measures in the coming days, contingency plans were yesterday triggered at the University of Huddersfield. Officials confirmed it had its first case last week.
The Examiner understands a student tested positive and the university was made aware “late last week.”
The university took advice from Public Health England and was told there was “no increased risk to staff or students.”
However yesterday the university implemented its contingency plans and classroom teaching will be stopped from next Monday and run until the end of the academic year. Learning will take place online.
Vice-chancellor Prof Bob Cryan told staff: “I would like to reassure you that the university has robust contingency management procedures for key processes.
“We are continuing to monitor the situation carefully so that we are prepared to act as advised by Public Health England and the Government as this situation develops over the coming weeks.”
Salendine Nook Surgery confirmed its doors were closed due to Coronavirus fears.
It said it was closed until further notice while it awaited advice from Public Health England.
Another surgery, The Waterloo Practice, also locked its doors to ‘minimise risk’ to the public and its staff.
In a message to patients, the surgery said: “We are changing our service model to manage patient requests by telephone and online in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, minimising risk to the public and our staff.
“Our doors will be locked from Monday March 16 with increased use of our telephones. This will be reviewed daily. Please use online facilities to communicate if possible. If you have an appointment at The Waterloo Practice we will contact you before that appointment to discuss whether you should be attending.”
