Another neighbour wrote: “I object to the proposed fish and chip shop. We do not need another one as we already have three in the neighbourhood.
“l have lived in this house for 49 years and we have problems with parking.
“If a chip shop was there our drive would be blocked with cars.
“There will be rubbish thrown away everywhere and we would have the smell of fish and chips so we won’t be able to open our windows.
“The funeral home causes us no problems at all.
“So please don’t let this planning application go through, it will make all our neighbours unhappy.”
The application which has been submitted by Brunswick Architectural of Lockwood on behalf of their client says: “As the present occupants do not hold a signed lease and do not wish to commit to one, the owners of the property wish to convert the property into a top-quality fish and chip takeaway.
“Having many years’ experience in the food industry trade and owning and running a high-end restaurant business in Saddleworth, they are well versed in the requirements of environmental issues appertaining to a food business, i.e. waste storage collection and fume extraction.”
Clr Bernard McGuin (Con, Almondbury), who has lived in Marsh for many years, said: “I am mindful of the great number of takeaways in Marsh.
“There are concerns locally about how many we have already.
“I also have worries about traffic access on Cleveland Road, very difficult now as it is.”
Kirklees has allowed up until March 25 for public consultation with a target date of April 21 to decide whether the plans should go ahead or not.
Kirklees councillor Sheikh Ullah (Lab, Greenhead) has asked for the application to be decided by a planning committee and not through delegated powers.
