Town players in a summer transfer limbo

THE worst-kept secret in football is that Grant looks more likely than not to move onto pastures new this summer, with several clubs sniffing around the forward this January and the club claiming to have rejected a £15m for Grant.

It would be next to impossible to resist that kind of bid this summer, though, especially as Town could buy two or three players with the money they could make off Grant. A nice return on the £2m they spent only last year could go a very long way. The club have always been open about the possibilit­y Grant might leave, with chief executive Mark Devlin telling the Examiner: “Let’s be really honest, a guy like Karlan is going to attract interest goal-scorers will attract interest and I have no doubt Karlan will be feted in the summer.

“We don’t have to sell him and if Karlan decided he wanted to be part of our group longer term, then that would delight us.

“We have to look at that, though, when it comes to the time.

JUST a few weeks ago we were on a coin-flip with whether or not Kachunga should get a new deal, but loan signing Chris Willock has helped underline how little Kachung was offering in attack, for all his hard work off the ball.

As with one or two others on this list, it depends who could be sourced as a replacemen­t. Manager Danny Cowley hasn’t ruled out a permanent deal for Benfica man Willock.

ASKED last month whether he wants to stay at the club, Simpson replied: “Yeah, and I think the lads know that and I think the manager knows that.”

But the 33-year-old right-back’s contract is up at the end of June and while he has undoubtedl­y been an improvemen­t over Florent Hadergjona­j, there is an opportunit­y for the club to try and find a more longterm fix for that flank.
