Flo joins lockdown with Super Lig suspended

- By MEL BOOTH

A FINAL Huddersfield Town player has joined his team-mates in the coronavirus lockdown.

Versatile Kosovo international Flo Hadergjonaj is on loan with Kasimpasa in Turkey and was ready to play against Yeni Malatyaspor this weekend – but all Turkish Super Lig fixtures have now been postponed indefinitely because of the virus.

Games had been going on behind closed doors, but the departure of former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel from leading club Trabzonspor earlier in the week over virus worries seems to have accelerated a decision to finally postpone the league.

“We decided all together to suspend the league,” Sports Minister Mehmet Kasapoglu said in a televised speech after meeting with the chiefs of the football, volleyball and basketball federations.

Turkish Football Federation chief Nihat Ozdemir said the period of suspension would be decided later.

“All football activities in Turkey have been suspended until further notice because of the continuous spread of coronavirus,” said a statement from the TFF.

“It means all professional and amateur football will be suspended immediately.”

Three people have died in Turkey while 191 cases have been officially recorded, according to the Turkish health minister.

Hadergjonaj, 25, has played six times for Kasimpasa and helped them climb away from the Super Lig relegation zone.

He has made 21 Championship appearances for Town this season and played in the FA Cup against Southampton.
