Latest pod talk on Town state of play

his passing benefits as a result. Since replacing the injured Hogg just 33 minutes into the win over Bristol City, Chalobah – who was a loan colleague of Collin Quaner – at Ipswich last season – has blossomed.

He had the Charlton Athletic match by the scruff of the neck and, even against Leeds United, he achieved much more than most of his teammates in terms of penetration, even though Town were generally under the cosh.

That was his 30th league and cup appearance for Town and, if and when the season does resume, it’s clear Hogg is going to face a real battle to regain his starting slot.

Chalobah appears comfortable with O’Brien alongside and Arsenal loanee Emile Smith Rowe ahead and he is gaining in confidence by the minute.

His passing ability was never better illustrated than by an inchperfect 40-yard through ball for Fraizer Campbell’s goal in the home clash with Birmingham City and, in the last three games, he’s emerged as a key prompter in Cowley’s game plan.

For him, it’s a real shame the games programme has come to a halt – his tumbleweed tweet from last weekend was an amusing representation of how most of us felt – and it will be fascinating to see if he can start where he’s left off when Town do eventually return to action.

THE Examiner’s Steven Chicken and David Hartrick can’t help but talk about the season’s unprecedented postponement and why the 2019/20 season must be completed in this week’s episode of our Huddersfield Town podcast, Ooh To Be A...

But we know you’ve had your fill of that kind of talk, so we’ve decided this week should mostly be regarded as an opportunity to take stock of the positives for Huddersfield Town.

Which players have we especially enjoyed watching this season? How does the more long-term future of the club look? And are Town weirdly now in a better position than they were 12 months ago?

If you want a little taster of the kind of thing you can expect, check out the following transcript...though as we say, the lion’s share of the podcast is much more upbeat.

Hartrick: “There’s two things here: there’s a thing that exists and a thing that doesn’t exist. The thing that exists is the 2019/20 football season, and the thing that doesn’t exist is the 2020/21 season.

“Whatever happens, this season that exists has to be finished, even if it runs very late into the summer. You know, there is an argument that after all this we would actually quite enjoy having some football in the summer!

“If we have to play into June and July to get these nine or ten games finished and done and the cup competitions finished then so be it, but season 2020/21 doesn’t exist so if you need to, I don’t know, drop the League Cup, drop the Europa League, start in September and drop the winter break out, if you need to shorten the FA Cup...

“Whatever you need to do, do it to next season so that we can finish this one.”
