EVENTS organisers face a nightmare of postponements and cancellations with uncertainty over when – or if – events can be re-arranged.

Amid the Covid-19 crisis Brighouse & Rastrick Band has had to call off its popular Massed Bands Concert with Black Dyke Band in Huddersfield Town Hall this coming Saturday. Some 900 people had been due to attend.

A band spokesman has announced that the event has been re-scheduled for March 27, 2021.

He said: “Whilst being bitterly disappointed that this eagerly anticipated concert will not now take place as planned we are grateful to Black Dyke, and particularly secretary John O’Brien, for helping promptly secure the new date, no earlier one being possible.

“Kirklees Council are expected to provide the option for existing ticket holders to use their tickets on the new date, or otherwise receive a full refund.

“Further details of this process will be announced as soon as possible and ‘B&R’ Patrons will be contacted personally in due course.

“It is sincerely hoped that the next Massed Bands Concert in Huddersfield, scheduled for October 24 this year, will take place as normal.

“In the meantime, on behalf of the players, officials and volunteers at Brighouse & Rastrick we wish you and your loved ones a safe and healthy time.”

Meanwhile, Holmfirth Arts Festival has also been postponed until September 18, 19 and 20 this year.

A spokesman said they hoped this allows sufficient time for the hazards of the virus to pass while maintaining commitments to staff, artists and community organisations.

The spokesman added: “We will be carrying on preparing our excellent festival programme for the later dates in September and we ask that you continue to support us by spreading the word that we are postponed not cancelled.”

The Great Yorkshire Show, due to be held in July, has also been cancelled and won’t be held in 2020.

A spokesman said: “We will continue to passionately support our farmers in whatever way we can, as they work hard producing our food.

“Our goal is to return bigger and better next year.”
