Sezer ‘rejuvenated’ by signing for Giants

AUSSIE SAYS HE HADN’T BEEN ENJOYING HIS RUGBY BEFORE MOVE

- By JOE BUCK

AIDAN Sezer has claimed his move to Huddersfield Giants has ‘rejuvenated’ his career and his love for the game.

The 28-year-old joined the Claret and Gold in the off-season in what was a major coup for the club.

Having helped the Canberra Raiders to the NRL Grand Final, he was one of the most wanted players in the game.

Giants won the race to sign him, and instantly made him captain.

And he has repaid them with a series of displays which has helped turn them into the surprise package of the season so far.

And the Australian has revealed he hadn’t been enjoying his rugby before his move to the John Smith’s Stadium.

“Everyone has got their own story and for me the time was right to come over here and refresh. “I probably wasn’t enjoying my rugby as much in the last few years,” he said.

“Coming over here is exactly what I needed, it’s rejuvenated me a little bit and I’m enjoying every day.

“It’s been beneficial on all counts, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do, to come over here and play in Super League and it has come now and I’m enjoying it.”

Sezer’s appearance on Sky’s ‘Inside Super League,’ alongside fellow Giant

Jordan Turner, also highlighted the great friendship the pair have.

Having played alongside each other at Canberra, the duo clearly share great respect for each other both on and off the field.

Sezer said: “I was at the Raiders and heard about the signing of JT, it was a good signing, he’s got plenty of experience and won big games in Super League

“It was pretty easy for me, I walked into the training room for a coffee and we’ve been good mates ever since, sometimes it’s that easy, we just get along with each other.”

Turner shares a similar view and believed, from the moment they met, Sezer would have a great impact in England.

“I knew when I met him then that if he ever came to England, he’d be a good fit in whatever team he played in.”

The pair also revealed that during pre-season, they staged a prank on head coach Simon Woolford, although Turner denied any involvement.

He said: “I wasn’t part of it, but we robbed him in pre-season. We robbed his boots and we were taking pictures of them in all kinds of places. He lost his head, absolutely lost his head, and his boots!”

Added Sezer: “We’ve got a great group of boys, everybody gets along and when it’s time to work, we get to work. We’re finding the balance of doing that and then when it’s time to have a laugh off the field we do that as well, and we’re pretty good at it.

“Jez [Jermaine McGillvary] leads that, he’s in charge of the team room banter.”
