Let’s hear it for schools deserving of recognition
DESPITE CRISIS WE WANT YOU TO SHOUT UP ABOUT INSPIRATIONAL WORK IN CLASS
DESPITE the closure of schools and uncertainty over public events the Examiner is continuing with judging for the annual Examiner Schools Awards.
We are determined to make sure those brilliant people involved in our schools are recognised for their hard work and commitment – even if the awards ceremony itself has to be delayed.
So we still want your nominations right now. Judging can still take place (remotely from home if necessary) so that we’re ready to present those awards in person as and when it’s safe to do so.
The closing date for nominations is April 3 so there’s no time to lose! If you’re at home during the current crisis then please take the time to enter someone you know.
The Examiner Schools Awards are run in association with executive partners Stafflex with support from award category sponsors Kirklees College.
Anyone can enter their schools, teachers, support staff, pupils and outstanding projects taking place within schools across Huddersfield and Kirklees.
These awards are not just about academic achievement but about celebrating the outstanding work that goes unnoticed that we want you to shout about!
We are on the lookout for schools and staff that go above and beyond their day to day role everyday to nurture and inspire.
Whether you are a teacher, governor, pupil, parent, grandma or grandad this exciting and prestigious event is your chance to shout about the inspiring work happening in our schools.
All finalists will be invited free of charge to a special celebratory awards ceremony and lunch at Kirklees College. We’ll keep you posted on when that might be.
A spokesman for Stafflex said: “Stafflex Education is proud to be the main sponsor of the Examiner

The two categories we want to highlight this week are: SEND School / Alternative Provision of the Year and the Green School Award.
The SEND award recognises SEND Schools or Alternative Educational Provisions who deserve to be recognised for their fantastic and inspirational work, progress, achievement, and most importantly ‘making a difference.’
We want to hear about your stories, journeys, credentials, new provision or ways of working. In 2019 the winner was Brian Jackson College.
The Green School Award is for an individual, class or whole school who make it a priority to encourage staff and pupils to lead a healthy lifestyle. This could include anything from environmental and green projects to mental health and wellbeing initiatives. If your school promotes a healthy and balanced lifestyle tell us about it!
In 2019 the deserving winner was Diamond Wood Community Academy in Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury.
