AN information analyst has been hailed an unsung hero of the NHS.
Robert Cox, who works for the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, has been crowned a winner of an Unsung Hero Award in the IT & Digital category.
The Unsung Hero Awards are national awards held at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester celebrating the non-medical and non-clinical NHS staff and volunteers of the NHS for all their hard work and achievements in their various roles.
The category awards recognise individuals or teams in non-medical departments such as IT and digital, estates and ancillary and admin and clerical.
The individual awards include categories such as Special Mention Award and Volunteer of the Year.
This year the UHA have introduced two new categories for 2020 which are Disability Learning Champion and Leadership Award.
NHS staff were asked to nominate their Unsung Hero based on their exceptional work ethic, drive for innovation, quality of interpersonal skills and outstanding achievements.
Calderdale and Huddersfield bagged an impressive four nominations
EIR hunters at Ramsdens Solicitors have won an award for probate research.
Staff at the Yorkshire law firm, which has 15 offices around the county including Huddersfield, proved to be experts in helping next of kin benefit from estates they often had no idea existed.
Celebrating the achievements and examples of best practice across forensic genealogy – or heir hunting – the UK Probate Research Awards, known as the Probies, took place at London’s DeVere Grand Connaught Rooms in February.
Heir hunting, the profession this year, with other categories being Estates & Ancillary, Corporate Services and Leadership Award but it was senior information/system analyst in information management, Robert Cox, that has been recognised for his ‘humble attitude’ and ‘technical brilliance,’ providing enhancing solutions to complicated tasks.
Robert has certainly left his mark on the trust, having come to Calderdale and Huddersfield on a one-year placement from the University of Huddersfield and then being offered a permanent position on completion of his degree.
Robert said: “The night was great. It was a lovely venue with a lot of positivity. I was very grateful to be nominated, so just being there was amazing in the first place.
“I wasn’t really expecting to win so it was quite a surprise, but I was delighted to have won.”
The Unsung Hero Awards ceremony featured a two tiered drinks reception in Cloud 23 and the main mezzanine area, followed by live entertainment, a three-course meal, a disco and a raffle in which all proceeds went to Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust and was match funded by Barclays.
The Awards were hosted by awardwinning comedian and writer from Liverpool, Jake Mills.
Jake is also a well-known mental health advocate, which fitted the main theme this year of mental health.
The award’s keynote speaker was Sir John Timpson, owner of key-cutting and shoe repairing chain, Timpsons and a big supporter and advocate of the NHS. made popular by the BBC TV programme of the same name, uncovers complex stories of family trees, while providing instrumental research and essential services to support the legal world, tasked with winding up estates when individuals pass away.
Ramsdens won in the category of Best Probate Law Firm for the North of England, and was commended by judges for their high levels of service under often difficult and emotionally charged circumstances.
Michael Robinson, associate in Ramsdens’ private client team, said: “It was a great night at the ‘Probies’ not only because we won ‘Best Probate Law Firm - North 2020’ (for the second year running) but we enjoyed a well organised event with other nominees, including law firms from across the country, genealogists from around the world and also specialist companies. A big thank you to the organisers of the event, Meerkat PR, and their sponsors.”
Alzheimer’s Society, the charity leading the battle against dementia, benefited from the silent auction, which raised more than £2,500 during the event.
