DIGITAL agency Splitpixel Creative has launched a new online ordering platform to help local businesses during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Cafes and restaurants across the UK are struggling to adapt to a new way of business, and Rob Marshall, creative director at Huddersfield-based Splitpixel, saw an opportunity to help out.
His idea was for a platform called TheLocal.Delivery.
It gives small businesses an easy way to handle online orders for delivery and take out, even taking payments online.
Access to the platform is being offered for a one-off fee of £50, with free hosting while the lockdown lasts.
Invoices won’t be sent until businesses are settled in and comfortable paying them.
Rob Evans, content manager at Splitpixel, is running the project.
He said: “We noticed so many of our favourite cafes, beer shops and restaurants scrambling to take orders on Facebook and over the phone. It sounded like a nightmare.
“That’s why we built this platform. Businesses will still need to sort out the delivery logistics themselves but they get one convenient place to manage orders, with payments taken through PayPal.
“We’re a small business too, with work of our own on hold during the lockdown. We can’t imagine what it’s been like for those working in hospitality. In all honesty, we just hope this helps.”
Businesses already using the platform include Huddersfield’s Arcade Coffee and Food for their new Arcade At Home delivery service, and Bradford’s 1in12 Club.
Profiles are on the way for Lepton’s Asparagus Green Catering and Lindley’s Hip Hops Beer Shop.
Ash Kwil, the project’s web developer, said: “It’s really easy to get set up and use. It’s like delivery apps without the time or faff.
“You don’t need your own website or any technical know-how – and we’re here to help too.”
