Swans offer up stadium

- By MEL BOOTH @examinerHTAFC

SWANSEA have offered the Liberty Stadium to the emergency services should they need extra space amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Sky Bet Championship club will also make free match tickets available to National Health Service workers and other key personnel when the football season resumes.

Swansea chairman Trevor Birch said in a club statement:

“We have offered the Liberty Stadium to the emergency services if they need additional space and resources to deal with the current situation, while we will ensure that we make at least 1,000 free match tickets available to NHS workers and other key personnel once the fixture programme restarts.”

TOWN’S bid for Championship survival this season is on hold while the EFL decide what to do next after suspending the current campaign due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Danny Cowley’s side have hauled themselves out of the relegation zone and up to 18th in the standings, three points above the drop zone.

The players have been told to stay away from the PPG Canalside training ground in line with Government advice and that of their own medical staff - each player having a bespoke training regime to work to.

It’s frustrating for all concerned as Town look to get the job done and secure their second-tier status, but there have been encouraging signs under Cowley and suggestions are that his primary objective when taking over will be achieved.

The playing squad, too, bolstered by six new faces in the January transfer window, have stepped up to the plate as the battle for points has intensified.

So here’s how the players have rated so far this season, in positional order...

THRUST into the Championship maelstrom for the first time after a previous loan spell from Liverpool to Aarhus, the Polish Under-21 international is still only learning the game but has proved himself a highly-capable shot stopper .........

A POPULAR returnee on loan from Everton in January, Lossl picked up where he left off and has slotted seemlessly into the more solid-looking defence ....................

HAS made two Championship appearances plus one in the FA Cup. Has never let the club down when he’s been called upon, but chances are limited .......................................

OUT on loan at Livingston in Scotland, he has played just twice for Town this season but is highlyrated as one for the future .............

WAS a vital signing when he arrived as a free agent, the former Leicester City man made an immediate impact but his form has steadily dropped off in recent months .......

NOW on loan with Kasimpasa in Turkey, the Kosovo international played right-back, left-back and wide in midfield during his 22 appearances this season ...............

WAS on loan to Boston United and has played just once for Town, against Leeds at home ...............

SIGNED by Jan Siewert from Borussia Dortmund but not up to it at Championship level . .................

PLAYED three times for Town this season, having had a loan spell at Bromley. Now doing well with Swindon in League Two. One for the future ...........................................

BEEN a tremendous addition from Lincoln City in January and has impressed with all aspects of his overlapping play from left-back. Top character too ...............................

WAS starting to show real promise in the left-back slot although memories of his last appearance against Barnsley will not be pleasant. Still learning ............................

SIGNED for the Premier League, much was expected of him this season but didn’t deliver and made it clear he wanted to move on. It’s a real shame he’s injured – but does the season’s extension give him a chance to play for Fulham again?

HAD a few teething problems but was starting to show the class which has made him a favourite at previous clubs when he season was cut short ..........................................

VERSATILE performer who rarely lets the side down, whatever role he is asked to play. He’s a real worker and proper pro, too ....................

RESPECTED skipper and absolute rock of the team. Was expected to hold things together this season following relegation and has done just that ........................................

PROVED a reliable partner for Schindler at the heart of defence and his last appearance, against Leeds United, said much about his determination, ability and profes
