Mixed reaction to club’s £45m Hoyle debt

SOME Town fans have been left feeling ‘betrayed’ by former chairman Dean Hoyle after the club’s accounts confirmed they must repay a debt of £45m to him.

A further £31m bank loan must be repaid in full ‘within one and two years’.

That has offered some insight as to why Town’s spending this summer was limited.

The structure of Phil Hodgkinson’s takeover has not yet been fully revealed as it falls outside the scope of the latest set of accounts, which run to June 30, 2019.

That has left some Town fans feeling slightly handicapped by their former owner, a devout Town fan – though others came to Hoyle’s defence, pointing out that he had put the money into the club and was therefore entitled to it back... the skint revolution. #htafc”

“If people would rather he’d sold to a rich businessman with a passing interest in #htafc then fine, it’s a game of opinions. But to claim he ‘played a trick’ when he loaned £45m to keep the club running and is now taking it back over three years at 0 per cent interest is low.”

“I think he knows this is the only time we will have the cash to pay him back.”

“And who said Diakahby and Mbenza was bad business?”

“It’s Hoyle’s money when all said and done. Just sticks in the throat that he always said he didn’t expect to ever get it back.”

“Obviously there are more important things to worry about in life but these figures appear to confirm that there is no parachute payment money left in the pot.”
