Two seriously injured in massive explosion at house
TWO PEOPLE HURT AFTER INCIDENT THAT SAW BRICKS FLY ACROSS STREET
TWO people were hurt after an explosion blasted a house apart yesterday.
CCTV footage from the front of a nearby property showed the front of the house disintegrating as it was blasted across the street.
Debris from the brick-built home in Crescent Walk, Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury, was blown across the road leaving the entire inside of both floors and the loft space exposed.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed that a 55-year-old man suffered a serious but not life-threatening injury in the blast.
Another male, who has not been identified as an adult or a child, was hit by flying rubble suffering a head injury.
Because of the lockdown it appears there was no-one in the street when the blast happened.
The cause of the explosion is not yet known.
A police spokesman said: “Police were called to Crescent Walk, Dewsbury, at about 11.37am to a report of a house fire.
“Officers and fire and ambulance services attended the incident in which it was apparent a property had suffered significant damage and was on fire.
“A 55-year-old man in the house was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries caused by the incident. The injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
“Another male who suffered a head injury after being struck by debris was treated at the scene. He was later taken to hospital for further treatment to the injury which is not life-threatening.
“Initial enquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing with West Yorkshire
Fire & Rescue Service.
