Giants weren’t taken for fools in trophy push
On that day, Giants were unplayable as they ran in 11 tries and won by a 56-point margin, the final score was 62-6.
A hat-trick from Aaron Murphy, supported by a brace from Scott
Grix, meant Giants were ahead after just two minutes of the game and by the time their visitors finally crossed, Huddersfield had hit the half a century mark.
If there were any lingering doubts Paul Anderson’s side were real title contenders, this performance and result banished them.
Previously to this game, Giants had suffered back-to-back defeats at the end of March to Warrington, and then surprisingly to Salford.
However, victory on April Fool’s Day sparked something in Giants and in their next three games, they were a different beast, well, offensively at least.
Not content with a sixty-point showing, Giants made it 100 points in two games with a 40-24 away at Castleford Tigers.
Despite going behind after two minutes, Giants then didn’t concede another point for the next 75 as they blew away their Yorkshire rivals.
A late flurry from Castleford, where they scored 18 points in three minutes, took some of the gloss off an impressive victory with Paul Anderson, post-match, saying his side have ‘got to be better than that.’
Well, Giants were certainly better in attack, however, once again, defensive frailties threatened to derail Huddersfield.
Eighty points were scored in West Yorkshire between Giants and Hull KR, with Giants taking their total to 152 points in just three games after a 50-30 victory.
However, with 30 points shipped, Giants had now conceded over 50 points in just two games.
Although the result was never really in doubt against Hull KR, defensively, Giants were becoming a source of frustration for Anderson.
After the game, Anderson said: “We’ve now shipped nearly 60 points in the last two matches, and that’s simply not acceptable.
“If we don’t fix this up, we could make things very tough for ourselves. We’ve got to learn to put teams to bed.”
