Harvey’s is thriving in the midst of lockdown

A HUDDERSFIELD restaurant is doing a roaring trade despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Harvey’s Kitchen/Bar in Fenay Bridge started a collection and delivery service two weeks ago and has been gratified by the public’s burgeoning appetite for its dishes. The brand has been wildly successful since it took off four years ago on

Penistone Road enabling a major extension to be built and more recently branching out into Holmfirth where it replaced Brambles opposite the bus station.

But co-owner Simon Docherty said he could see all the hard work of the past few years disappearing before his eyes as coronavirus has dealt a devastating blow to the hospitality industry.

He said: “Overnight to be told that four years’ hard work might disappear was hard to take. We have around 60 full and part-time staff and around 40 have been furloughed so it’s tough times.

“We wanted to keep the name and the brand out there and this seemed the best way of doing it. We had to support our team.

“We’ve been offering a menu of kebabs, burgers and pizzas as well as bottles of beer, wine and Prosecco and we’ve just partnered up with Dixon’s ice-cream so it’s great if people want to enjoy our food with their families and watch a movie at home.

“People can either have it delivered within a four-mile radius or can collect - we operate a no-contact arrangement whereby it’s placed in car boots and customers are given a 15-minute collection slot. “We’ve started doing Sunday lunch too and that’s been very popular with more than 100 orders this weekend so we’re encouraging people to preorder from as early as Tuesday.

“This weekend we brought out another 10 to 15 of our staff and by the end of this week, I think we will have brought about 50% of them back into work.

“There’s been a lot of pent-up demand in Holmfirth so we will be extending our service there too from this Thursday.

“And over the next few weeks we’re looking at producing a special, handy App which we think will prove popular too. We don’t know what the future of the industry holds for us so we have to do what we can in the meantime.” See Harvey’s Facebook page for details.
