THE former TSB bank in Huddersfield town centre has been sold.

The property on 5-7 Ramsden Street is a prominent three-storey mid-terraced building which dates back to the 19th century.

It has a dual-fronted banking hall within a terrace and is arranged over basement, ground, first and second floors.

The ground floor provides a banking hall with rear ancillary accommodation whilst the remainder of the building is arranged as offices, storage and ancillary accommodation.

TSB had the lease until 2023 but it has now been sold to Chan Khangura of Whitegates estate agents.

Mr Khangura, managing director of Whitegates, said: “Many years ago the property was marketed for £960,000 with DTZ. At that time the bank were still in situ and paying over £75,000 per annum.

“Since the lease was reverted the previous owner decided to auction the property with an asking price of £250,000.

“I was delighted to be able to purchase this historic and handsome building.

“It’s over 6,000sqft and provides accommodation over four storeys.

“Due to the challenges that are ahead for businesses in the town I am happy to let the unit at a charitable rent.

“I am wanting our local economy to thrive and will happily give concessions if I feel the occupier is right - I want to help our Huddersfield economy in every way I can.

“The property market in Huddersfield will bounce back after this and I have put my money where my mouth is!”
