Body found in woodland search for missing Peter
FORMER CRICKETER NOT BEEN SEEN SINCE SATURDAY
POLICE were yesterday carrying out detailed searches of woodland to find a well-known former cricketer from Newsome.
Peter Dibb, aged 86, went missing on Saturday afternoon and family, friends and police were concerned for his welfare.
But on Sunday afternoon a large police presence was near Honley woods.
Peter is well known in Huddersfield as a phenomenal athlete who retired from cricket in his 70s and continued running marathons after that.
He gained a reputation as an extremely talented all-rounder and played for Paddock, Hall Bower and most recently Honley Cricket Club, whose matches he regularly watched following his retirement.
He is one of only four players in the history of the Huddersfield League cricket to score 10,000 runs and 1,000 wickets.
Jamie Harrison, who is scorer at Delph and Dobcross, said Peter is, ‘hugely respected by players across the league.’
The Examiner’s Huddersfield Town editor, Mel Booth, described Peter as a ‘really nice guy.’
“He was very single-minded in the way that good sportsmen often are. He had a phenomenal record in cricket as an all-rounder. And it wasn’t just cricket, he ran marathons and did athletics as well.”
He is described as a white male of slight build with short, grey hair.
Peter, who stands 5 ft 11in tall, was last seen wearing a purple jumper or hooded top and is believed to be driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa with registration DV59 WMG.
