To keep, or to let go? Town’s loan dilemma

The club are still yet to announce any player pay cuts or wage deferrals during the coronaviru­s lockdown, and while they are in a more stable financial position than many Championsh­ip clubs, the uncertaint­y continues as to when the season might be able to resume, whether new TV revenues might be forthcomin­g, and when live crowds will be able to return to the John Smith’s Stadium.

That means that, like every other Championsh­ip club, it is likely Town will need to tighten their belts until more reliable revenue forecasts can be drawn up at the very least.

The wage bill will be the number one concern for every EFL club, and that will affect everything from dealings in the transfer market to contract renewals – and, potentiall­y, loan renewals.

Chalobah, Smith Rowe and Willock have all establishe­d themselves as key players for boss Cowley, and the club would presumably prefer to retain their services if at all possible to aid in the fight against relegation.

But the two goalkeeper­s offer pause for thought. Lossl was brought in on January transfer deadline day to cover for Grabara’s head injury, from which he should be long-since recovered.

So the question is whether they deem it worthwhile to renew the loan deals for both.
