“I spoke to Huddersfield about it and it was a hard conversation. There was a bit of back and to in terms of negotiating a price because Huddersfield didn’t want me to leave.

“There’s not many clubs I would have left for and that’s genuine. There are maybe three or four clubs in the Championship that you would say are really top, top end clubs who should be in the Premier League and I certainly think Stoke are one of them.

“I only had 12 months left on my contract and I just thought ‘I can’t turn this opportunity down.’”
