Challenge Cup final is postponed but not yet cancelled

- RUGBY LEAGUE

RUGBY League’s Challenge Cup final, originally planned for Wembley on July 18, has been postponed.

The Rugby Football League still hopes to stage the showpiece later in 2020, so long as Government advice permits.

Supporters who have bought tickets for the final are advised that they will be valid for any rearranged date.

Huddersfield Giants are already out of the showpiece competition as they lost their fifth-round tie 18-0 at home to the Toronto Wolfpack in their last game before the lockdown on March 11.

The AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final, played for by the teams below Super League, has also been postponed.

Meanwhile, Ratu Naulago will depart Hull FC at the end of the season after agreeing a switch to rugby union.

The winger, who was signed after impressing playing rugby union 7s for the British Army, will head to the 15-man code at the conclusion of the current campaign.

Hull had hoped to keep hold of the military man and had tabled a long-term contract for him to stay, however, Naualgo has opted to make the code switch and says the tough decision was taken so that he can be closer to his family and friends.

Naulago said: “I would like to thank Hull FC for the opportunity they gave me in professional rugby - I will always be thankful for that. I have loved my time here, everyone at the club has made me feel very welcome.

“I hadn’t considered playing anywhere else in rugby league. I have too much respect for the club and for what they have done for me, so leaving for another Super League team was never an option.

“This opportunity in rugby union will allow me to move back home to my wife and close friends which is really important to me. It has been a very difficult decision but it is a new challenge I am really looking forward to.

“I am fully committed to the club for the rest of this season when we do get back playing and I am determined to do my best for the team.”
