Hull tell Town ‘end the season now’

ton and was number two to Stuart Gray.

“He got the job at Huddersfield. I trusted him because he was one of the guys who brought me through to the first team at Southampton, he loved me.

“He said you’re going to love playing with Andy Booth up-top, big man small man.

“I got there and ended up playing left wing. I’d never played there in my life.

“I was 18 or 19 and I was blowing out of my rear end!

“I was not up to the level. But I didn’t know that. I had just come from Southampton, I hadn’t played a lot of first-team football, and I wasn’t prepared, so that was a real learning curve.

“Then as the season went on, we weren’t getting results, and you hear whispers of the club being in trouble financially.

“Just as I was about to leave that’s when they were into administration and had a real bad patch.

“I still speak to the kit-man whenever I see him, there were lots of good people there.

“It was a good period for me because I learnt a lot. I learnt as a loanee you either have to do well or be prepared for the stick.

“For the supporters it’s their club, it means a lot to them.

“Even when I was warming up at one point I was getting dogs abuse from Huddersfield fans and I thought ‘what’s going on here?’

“It was a rude awakening.

“But that was brilliant. It was character building. I don’t look at that as negatives, I think it brought some more resilience. You have to take it and get on with it and learn from it.”

HULL City are the first Championship club to publicly oppose a restart of the season.

It had previously been reported five clubs were strongly opposed to the season restarting.

Hull vice chairman Ehab Allam has written to Huddersfield Town and the 22 other sides in the Championship, along with EFL chairman Rick Parry, to outline his ‘serious concerns’.

The Telegraph report he wrote: “I do not presently believe that the 2019/20 season can be safely completed without unnecessarily exposing Championship clubs to potential legal action in the event that one or more of its employees (or their family members) were to become infected with COVID-19.

“As made clear on last week’s conference call, I am against the 2019/20 season being completed under the present circumstances and in light of the wider public health issues facing the UK at the present time.

“The season should be voided and (with no further games played and efforts instead being focused upon ensuring a safe return in the advance of next season, whenever that ultimately takes place), with this means of drawing a conclusion to the season (including how the important questions of promotion and relegation would then be addressed) being put to a formal vote.”

Allam also argues that the rate of infection in Yorkshire and the north east, which is the highest in the country, means the EFL is putting ‘undue and inappropriate pressure’ on clubs to make a return to training.
