Danish goal may see Jonas stay with Town

-

Everton, seven months after joining the Toffees on a three-year deal after leaving Town following relegation to the Championship.

Lossl is already a popular figure from his time with the Terriers in the Premier League following a loan move from Mainz 05 in 2017 that was made permanent in 2018.

And his performances upon his return under Danny Cowley have been just as encouraging. A dependable set of hands. Lossl’s loan deal expires over the course of the next month and with the resumption of Championship football set for the coming weeks, it remains to be seen whether the Terriers can extend the deal.

Much hinges on what happens at Everton and with the Premier League’s ‘Project Restart.’

Jordan Pickford is the clear No.1 at Goodison Park under Carlo Ancelotti and Dutchman Maarten Stekelenburg has been understudy since the start of the season, although his deal also runs out next month before the Premier League is set to conclude behind closed doors.

Lossl, who took a pay cut to come on loan to Huddersfield, had a motivating factor in wanting to get game time this season - a place with the Danish squad at Euro 2020. He could quite easily have sat and waited in the wings on Merseyside, but with spaces up for grabs in the Denmark squad, Lossl wanted to make sure he got as much game time as possible in order to push for a berth. Obviously we now know that Euro 2020 will be played next year owing to the coronavirus pandemic and the race to impress will start all over again, with Kasper Hjulmand replacing Age Hareide as national team boss.

So what does that mean for Lossl? Much hinges on what Everton do. Do they stick or twist with Stekelenburg as a No.2? Do they engage him on a longer deal now in order to make sure he is around for the conclusion of the season?

Do they bring back Lossl in the event that Stekelenburg does leave
