SCHOOLS WILL STRUGGLE TO MEET MAXIMUM 15 PUPILS A CLASS ADVICE

THE majority of schools in Kirklees will struggle to implement social distancing measures, new data has revealed.

Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 classes returned yesterday, with secondary school pupils in year 10 and 12 returning in two weeks from Monday, June 15. However, classes will struggle to be set at the recommende­d maximum of 15.

Within Kirklees, the average class size across all schools stands at 18 pupils per teacher. In fact, 85% of all schools in the area have a pupil/ teacher ratio of more than 15 children per class - 92% of primary schools, and 76% of secondary schools.

One primary school - St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School (Dewsbury) - has 27 pupils for every teacher, while Manor Croft Academy, a secondary

school, has 20 per class.
