Hotel offers wedding hope to couples whose big day was cancelled

A HUDDERSFIELD hotel that was turned into the first ‘Nightingale’ care home in West Yorkshire is now offering wedding packages to brides who may have missed out due to the coronavirus disruption.
Cedar Court at Ainley Top won national fame last month after it was transformed into a 113-bed care home in a scheme designed to support those too vulnerable to remain at home during lockdown.
Calderdale Council was anxious to find somewhere to care for patients who had recovered enough from Covid-19 to leave hospital but still required some nursing before they could return to the community.
Now the hotel is looking to host the weddings of any couples who may have permanently lost their venue due to coronavirus disruption in the area and will even cover some of the value of any lost deposits.
The news is timely given the recent closure of The Old Golf House Premier Wedding Venue, Outlane, after the parent group suffered financial problems.
Wayne Topley, managing director of Cedar Court Hotels, says he has some reason for optimism despite obvious business disruption.
He said: “We have weathered the storm very well and I’ve been both impressed and humbled by my senior team’s commitment to ensuring our business foundations are as strong as ever.
“I am especially proud of the work we have done to support our local communities and emergency services during the lockdown.
“Our Huddersfield hotel only has limited space left for 2020, but the team there will do what they can to accommodate any couples who may have woken up to the horrible news that their booked wedding venue is going into administration.
“We are even offering to cover some of the cost of any lost deposits, up to 50%. We have the flexibility to turn this challenge into a positive.
“We are proud to be a part of the wider Huddersfield community and if we can help, we will.”
