FORMER Huddersfield Town academy coach Marc BridgeWilkinson has been appointed as the new under-18s manager at Premier League championselect Liverpool.

The 41-year-old former Port Vale, Carlisle United, Bradford City and Darlington player moved into coaching after hanging up his boots and got his break at Town, spending three years coaching in the academy set-up at PPG Canalside as a youth development coach.

He departed the Terriers staff to take up a position as coach of Liverpool’s Under-14 side and has impressed Academy manager Alex Inglethorpe who believes that his background as a former player will help him as he fills the role of Barry Lewtas who has been promoted to take over the Under-23 side at Anfield, working closely with first-team boss Jurgen Klopp.

Inglethorpe said: “Marc came to us originally as an Under-14s coach and I like the fact he’s been a player and knows what it feels and smells like to be a player.

“He’s someone who is very passionate about improving his players as well as improving himself.

“As an individual he’s caring, patient and authentic. He knows how we want to work as an Academy and at this moment in time I think it’s important for us to have continuity.”

As a player BridgeWilkinson made more than 400 appearances in a 15-year career and picked up a winners medal in the EFL Trophy in 2001 and FA Trophy in 2011.

KARLAN Grant has a burning desire to get back playing in the Premier League and hopes he’ll get the chance to do it with Huddersfield Town.

The 22-year-old striker has been in excellent form for the Terriers this season, one of the few shining lights in a campaign of real struggle for the club as they battle at the wrong end of the Championship.
