KING’S EXTRA TIME!

TOWN ACE EXTENDS DEAL UNTIL END OF SEASON

- By MEL BOOTH

TOWN have extended the loan of one of their Premier League loan men.

Manager Danny Cowley has moved to secure the services of Leicester City stalwart Andy King to the end of the Championship campaign.

Town have had to move on King because his original loan from the Foxes expired at the end of May.

The club’s other loan players Kamil Grabara, Jonas Lossl, Trevoh Chalobah, Emile Smith Rowe and Chris Willock - all have contracts until the end of June.

Boss Cowley has already revealed he has had positive talks with Liverpool, Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal and Benfica about extending those terms into July, with ratification to come at a later date.

King’s deal with Town is now sealed, with the EFL approving his Covid-19 loan extension.

The 31-year-old Welsh international played the first half of this season with Steven Gerrard’s Rangers in the Scottish Premier.

He signed for Town in January and made his debut as a late substitute in the goalless home draw with Brentford.

King has made a total of seven Town appearances, the last being in the 3-1 defeat at Swansea in February.

He was an unused substitute against Bristol City, missed the matchday 18 against Charlton Athletic and was back on the bench as an unused sub for

Town’s last match at Leeds.

King told the club’s official website he can’t wait for the season to restart against Wigan Athletic at the John Smith’s Stadium on June 20, even though there will be no fans in attendance.

“I can’t wait to return,” he said. “As a footballer you just want to play games, even more so when you’ve had such a long break, and even more so with me after my injury at Rangers where I didn’t play as much as I wanted to either.

“I’m eager to get going again. You want to see the results of the last nine or 10 weeks hard work that you’ve put in, where we were just running on our own.

“We can’t wait to get the games started again.”
