We need fewer of Boris’ ‘successful’ strategies

-

ALAN Star suggests that “not long ago scientists believed that the Sun went round the Earth.” Really? Can he name any?

How long is not long: 50, 100, 200 years?

It is said Newton practiced alchemy, but given Newtonian law I doubt he believed the Sun went around the Earth, or any other educated person of the 17th century for that matter.

Hindsight is indeed, as Mr Star writes, a wonderful thing. So is knowledge.

In late February doctors in Lombardy, Italy, wrote open letters to the UK, begging the UK to lockdown. We all saw the TV pictures of modern, wellequipped hospitals overwhelmed by Covid patients. To argue the UK had no warning of what the immediate future looked like is disingenuous.

Other countries around the world, that have fared better than the UK, went into lockdown a lot earlier, without the benefit of hindsight.

Does Mr Star share Mr. Johnson’s pride in his Government’s success in handling the Covid crisis? Third in the overall deaths, second overall in excess mortality and an economy (over-reliant on the service sector) left in tatters.

Let’s hope Mr Johnson’s strategy for recovery isn’t as successful!

We can’t change our past to affect future

SINCE the result of the 2016 referendum we have one writer to the column who is still harping about the result.

The time is long past for debate on who said and did what. The time now is to embrace a new future for our country, a future of our own making.

If repeated letters bemoaning the referendum result were not enough the gentleman is now on an additional subject – that being Covid-19 and how the Government has performed during the pandemic.

One thing we shall never know is how Labour would have performed in this pandemic.

Unlike many people I have no crystal ball to look both into the future or the past. I have however noticed that many Labour MPs and our very own Mr Verguson, do have the ability to see into the future. That is because they have seen the past and now make an assessment of what they would have done.

Hindsight would be a great gift to have, sadly I do not possess it but others do seem to. I am trying to see a time when Mr Verguson will give it a rest but at the moment things look cloudy.

Keep well and stay safe everyone.
