Moore to worry about for Town

- By MEL BOOTH

WIGAN Athletic will present Town with a big challenge today, in more ways than one.

Town boss Danny Cowley says his team are under no illusions about the size of the task ahead of them as they return to Championship action.

He says Paul Cook’s visitors - one point and two places behind Town in the table - have a nice balance, as well as one of the most powerful frontmen in the division - the 6ft

5in Kieffer Moore.

The much-travelled 27-year-old has delivered five goals to Wigan’s survival battle from his last 11 appearances.

“The year 2020 hasn’t been good for many people really, but it started well for Wigan for sure,” said Cowley.

“They’ve had some wonderful results, beating West Brom away and Leeds away. When they beat West Brom away it was with 52 per cent possession.

“We are expecting a 4-2-3-1 formation, with really attacking fullbacks who like to get on the overlap.

“They’ve got technical wide players who like to come inside and link up, and a No.9 in Kieffer Moore who is a real physical specimen and a real handful.

“Wigan also have two very good No.6s who like to dictate play, get on the ball and dominate possession, and they can also do the other side of the game as well and enforce it.

“So they have a really nice balance to their team and it’s no surprise to us that they’ve been on the run they have.

“We are under no illusions as to how tough this will be.

“We are expecting a really difficult game.

“But we are well prepared and it’s one we aim to attack positively.”

Welsh international Moore is from Torquay and played for Yeovil and Forest Green before joining Ipswich and then Barnsley.

He’s also played in Norway for Viking and had loan spells at Torquay and Rotherham United. He signed for Wigan last summer on a three-year deal.
