LIFELONG Huddersfield Town Football fan, Roger Mark Brook Nicholson (known as Mark Nicholson) died, aged 65, on Thursday, June 11, at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Mark was born and raised in Edgerton, and for the last 10 years of his life lived in Fenay Bridge on the grounds of Woodsome Hall Golf Club where he was a longstanding member and until more recently, competed in and played copious amounts of golf with friends.

He was a longstanding HTAFC season ticket holder and would rarely miss a game whether it be at home or away.

Watching Town was his favourite pasttime and he supported them through the good times and the bad with equal amounts of enthusiasm.

When Town were promoted to the Premier League on May 29, 2017, after beating Reading 4-3 on penalties in the playoffs at Wembley, he said it was “one of the best days of my life!”

Mark attended Mount School and St David’s Preparatory School, before moving on to Worksop College.

He enjoyed drama and particularly sport like cricket and rugby where he showed a competitive nature both playing and spectating.

He played cricket for Birkby Old Boys for some time as a youth.

He also had a keen interest in horse racing and would never miss a bet on the Aintree Grand National among other annual race events.

It was at school and college where he made friends that lasted his lifetime.

He lived for the school holidays and meeting up with friends. The 70s and 80s were a time of parties and great music.

His taste in music was eclectic and his extensive album collection was treasured alongside his passion and enjoyment for live music.

Mark’s career spanned 41 years in banking where he gave nearly 30 years of service to Lloyds until he was headhunted by Royal Bank of Scotland in 2001.

Before his retirement in 2014, Mark held the role of Senior Business Manager at the Huddersfield branch of RBS, managing a portfolio of 320 small business customers to over-achieve core and noncore income targets.

In July 1994, Mark married Lizzie Robinson and raised three step-daughters, Xanah, Daisy and Molly whom he loved and adored dearly.

He was a devoted son to his late parents, Paul Holdsworth Nicholson and Jean Winifred Nicholson.

Mark is survived by his younger sister - Sally Wade, brother in law Robin, nephews - Nicholas and Oliver and niece - Sophie.

Over the last year, Mark suffered with health issues and sadly passed away quite suddenly.

His life will be celebrated with a private service for close family and friends on Thursday, 25 June, at Grenoside Crematorium.

In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully received for Carers Trust Mid Yorkshire - carerstrustmidyorkshire.org.uk
