Covid cover-up disgrace is just like China itself...

I FIND the cover-up regarding outbreak of Covid-19 at the Kober Ltd Cleckheaton factory disgraceful.

Kirklees Council, Asda and Kober have all apparently decided it was not in the public interest to release details of the outbreak. Some might say they have acted like China in keeping the original outbreak to themselves – and we all know what that caused.

The has reported that Clr John Lawson (leader of Lib Dems on Kirklees Council) believes that the risk to Cleckheaton was limited as the workforce came from a wide geographical area.

But to me that is frightening, as it means the workforce are spread far and wide and the possible effect of the spread is bigger.

We have all been affected by COVID-19, but it does not help anyone if the authorities, and those whose reputation is at risk, try and sweep these problems under the carpet.

So many ‘if only’s have led us here

KIRKLEES council’s brisk response to outbreak of Covid19 in the meat packing plant in Cleckheaton demonstrates what could have been achieved if only...

If only the Government had mobilised local authorities at the very beginning, harnessing environmental health departments in contact tracing, perhaps in conjunction with GP practices.

Instead of which they passed contracts out to big private companies that failed to deliver effectively.

If only the Johnson administration had not been wedded to the centralised, private sector model. If only...

What a pathetic response to events

KIRKLEES Council are becoming quite famous for keeping secrets from the public, but now they’re keeping them from MPs.

Council leader Pandor claims that the MPs were notified of an outbreak but didn’t tell them the location in order to fight the virus. What a pathetic, crap response. By not telling anyone, people were walking around that factory, unaware of that Covid-19 breakout.

Never mind telling the MPs, the public should have been told immediately. After all, what would Tracy Brabin or our Barry do? I repeat, it’s the public who are being kept in the dark again. I’m surprised those two stalwart MPs have gone public to rubbish the Labour council. Have we got dissent amongst Labour?

While I’m at it, why won’t Pandor say how much the council are going to fork out for the George Hotel? Where is the money coming from to destroy our town shops to make green spaces for the students?

Let Pandor reply in the

and also state exactly how much money this council have loaned out and to whom?

They are spending our money, yet we don’t get a say.
