If you don’t want to play for Town then go now!

- FANS’ VIEW @examinerHTAFC By STEVEN CHICKEN @examinerHTAFC

THERE were no excuses for Huddersfield Town’s defeat by Wigan from manager Danny Cowley.

As you’d expect after a limp display against a relegation rival, the 2-0 loss and performance has not sat well with supporters.

Here’s some of the reaction from Town fans...

James, Sheffield:

Greg, Worcester: This was and is a massive loss. The players have been away from the real world, 100 days give or take. Wake up. We are all in this pandemic. You so-called players are in a very unique position.

Losing to an average side at best. Are you really professional footballers? Take a long very hard look at yourselves.

You do not seem to be fit. If you do not want to play for Huddersfield Town, go now.

HUDDERSFIELD Town chairman Phil Hodgkinson has called for fans to be patient and understanding if the club don’t go out and spend millions in the transfer market this summer.

The Terriers owner revealed the club’s parachute payments from the Premier League have been reduced, which we understand is a result of a proportion of the top-flight TV rights revenue having to be repaid to broadcasters.

Hodgkinson also said that all six of Town’s loan players – Trevoh Chalobah, Kamil Grabara, Andy King, Jonas Lossl, Emile Smith Rowe and Chris Willock – have had their deals extended to keep them at the club until the end of the season. The chairman understands the players who are out of contract on June 30 have indicated they are willing to play on beyond that.

However, he added that the club ‘can’t make any decisions on whether we renew contracts for those who are out of contract until we know which division we’re in.’

Clubs in the Championship and beyond still face huge financial uncertainty with games being played behind closed doors until further notice, making it difficult to predict how the next transfer window will unfold or even when it will open.

Hodgkinson, speaking on podcast And He Takes That Chance, said: “Unless people have missed something, the world is a very different place now and football is a very different place.

“There are over 1,300 free agents this summer, footballers - 1,300.

“There are clubs releasing players that aren’t out of contract.

“Championship clubs will not be flinging tens of millions of pounds around.

“This pandemic has already cost us millions as a football club and it’s going to cost us many more. So what we’ve got to do is make sure we run the club in the right way to make sure we get through this and we’re stronger for it.

“People are going to have to be even more patient because we’ve been dealt a set of circumstances that nobody expected, and we’ve got to deal with what’s in front of us.

“It’s going to be tough and we’ve got to be really careful and sensible and make sure that the changes we make are permanent, not temporary.”

Since taking over at the club Hodgkinson has acknowledged the rebuilding job that needs to happen in the Town playing squad, but he admits the timescale for that is now up in the air just as much as anything else in football at the moment.

He said: “I was confident that it was three windows before Covid happened. We now don’t know when the window is going to open or how long it’s going to last for.

“The money in football this next 12 months is not there.

“You look at no supporters in grounds, it affects us, but you look at the top six in the Premier League that’s going to cost them £100m+, so they ain’t going to be bouncing money around all over the place.

“Premier League clubs this season have spent £250m on transfers from the Championship to the Premier League, and I can’t see that happening this next season. I’d be surprised if we did.

“We’ve lost some of our parachute payments, we’re having to give some of that back, we’re not receiving all of it, and that’s permanent, not temporary.

“We’re losing out on some of the parachute payments and it’s significant.

“Premier League clubs are losing out on some of their TV money, it’s significant. Then we’ve got no revenue streams on matchdays.

“Let’s not pretend, if this doesn’t

This pandemic has already cost us millions as a football club and it’s going to cost us

many more
