COWLEY: WE NEED HELP!

TOWN ASK LEAGUE FOR SPECIAL PERMISSION TO FIELD LOAN PLAYERS IN RUN-IN

- By MEL BOOTH

HUDDERSFIELD Town have applied to the EFL for special permission to bolster their squad for the Championship survival run-in.

The Terriers are without Liverpool loan keeper Kamil Grabara and the released Danny Simpson for the final eight matches – in addition to all their players who had been out on loan.

But Town have applied for special dispensation to play three of those loaned players because their respective clubs have had their seasons cancelled.

So manager Danny Cowley is hopeful he might be able to use goalkeeper Ryan Schofield (Livingston) should needs be, along with Swindon promotionwinner Rarmani Edmonds-Green and Rotherham’s promoted winger Josh Koroma.

“We believe we are able to use Ryan Schofield and potentially we have put applications in for our players who have been out on loan in leagues that are now finished,” said Cowley.

“So, we are hopeful we might have Rarmani Edmonds-Green and Josh Koroma back available to us for the run-in, which would be helpful.

“We were only told this the Thursday before the Wigan game, and there was no initial process about how to achieve it, so this week we’ve been told we had to apply. So we feel we have good reasoning because we have lost Danny Simpson and Rarmani is a right-back, while Josh Koroma can help in our situation with the

No.9s being injured in a pre-season where we had a very short period of time to get ourselves fit.

“We think these are extenuating circumstances to be in a position to utilise those players, but we are obviously waiting for confirmation from the EFL to do that - and Ryan Schofield as well.”

Meanwhile, Cowley hinted that financial pressures have led to the club not renewing Simpson’s contract.

He said: “We have to make some financial decisions in this time and we all understand it’s not easy for football clubs at this moment.

“It’s not been easy and we’ve had to cut our cloth accordingly.

“Danny wanted to stay, there was no doubt about that, and we wanted Danny to stay, but we couldn’t make it happen.”
