Pastures new for Parish
PUB AND GIG VENUE TO REOPEN AT OLD COURTHOUSE FOLLOWING A DISPUTE
THE Parish pub and gig venue is on the move, it has been revealed.
The Huddersfield town centre boozer confirmed on Monday that a dispute with pub firm EI had prevented it from reopening last Saturday.
The news came after the team there had managed to crowdfund more than £45,000 to try and keep the venue afloat after finding they were not eligible for Government support during the coronavirus crisis.
Yesterday they have told crowdfund supporters that they are relocating to the Old Courthouse on Queen Street, known to most as the former Tokyo’s bar.
The venue re-branded as the Old Courthouse last September but it folded after just six weeks and has been empty since early November.
In a message to supporters of the crowdfunder, Parish director Tom Simpson says: “Sadly the Parish is not going to be reopening at 28 Kirkgate.
“The Parish will be reopening at a new site: The Old Courthouse by the theatre.
“The Old Courthouse is one of the prime locations for a bar in Huddersfield, we are going to eventually have a 500-capacity venue, a proper Parish-style dive bar, and a more family friendly food hall type of thing!
“We are all extremely excited.”
“We have been at 28 Kirkgate for over 14 years now and it’s incredibly sad for us as it feels like we are moving home, away from where were born.
“But we are moving to a much bigger, better site and we hope we can make the new place feel like home really quickly, and to that end, our customers and supporters like yourselves who backed us with the crowdfunder and have supported us over the 14 years by coming to gigs, drinking our booze and eating our food, are so important to this.
“We are really excited to see you all back in the Parish at our new site, helping us to make it what it needs to be. Without your help we would NOT be reopening anywhere, that is a 100% fact.
“Without you we would be done, with you we are starting the next chapter of the Parish and fingers crossed, on to bigger and better things.”
