A POLICE officer who describes himself as “not a natural runner” is raising money for former Huddersfield Town player Jordan Sinnott who died in tragic circumstances earlier this year.

Acting Sergeant Al Lee who is a police officer in Huddersfield has set himself a challenge of running 155 kilometres in July, averaging at 5K, (or 3.1 miles), a day to raise money for the Jordan Sinnott Foundation.

Al has set up his own Just Giving page to raise funds for Jordan who was a close friend.

Jordan, 25, a died in January as a result of head injuries sustained in an assault during a night out in Retford. Active criminal court proceedings remain ongoing regarding the case.

Al said he thought the charity runs were a great way of honouring his mate and also trying to do something positive for a range of good causes.

He said: “Jordan was one of my best friends and it is difficult to put into words how much he is missed and the effect his death has had on his friends, family, and girlfriend.

“I wanted to do something positive and also something which would give me a personal challenge, and believe me, these runs are!

“Five kilometre a day may sound a walk in the park to some people, but those who know me will know that running is not something that comes naturally to me.”

Al said the first few runs had been “quite enjoyable” as he had been running with friends and family and had also now run with Jordan’s mum and brother which he said was an amazing experience.

Describing the new foundation set up in Jordan’s memory, the acting sergeant said it aimed to carry out important work to support both people sleeping rough and also in educating young people about the consequences of violence.

Al said: “The Jordan Sinnott Foundation is in its early stages of being an established charity - the aim is to continue raising as much money as possible in Jordan’s name to raise money for causes that Jordan was passionate about.

Jordan was one of my best friends and it is difficult to put into words how much he

is missed.

“These include supporting those who are homeless/rough sleeping and helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds access sport.

“It also aims to raise awareness around brain injuries and the use of violence/force, in particular hoping to educate young people so other families don’t have to go through the pain that Jordan’s family have.

“Please give whatever you feel you can to the Jordan Sinnott Foundation, all help is much appreciated.”
