COWLEY: IF THEY DON’T GIVE THEIR ALL, THEY ARE OUT

of undeniable and indefensible faults from his side in that game, but he rejected the accusation his side were not putting in the required effort.

He pointed out that when he has felt that players were doing that in the past, he has dropped them from his squad, alluding to the players he removed from first-team contention in December in favour of several academy players despite an injury crisis.

Cowley said: “I always try to say it honestly. I think you can accuse me of many things but I don’t think you can accuse me of not fronting up and telling the truth.

“If I thought the players weren’t trying I’d be the first to tell you, don’t worry about that, I can promise you that.

“There are some things for me that are acceptable and some things for me that are completely unacceptable but this group, I promise you, just care.

“They’re trying really hard. Maybe one or two are short of a little bit confidence or a little bit of rhythm for one reason or another. Don’t confuse that for not trying and not caring because I promise you, they care.

“Don’t forget, this is all of our lives at stake. Don’t think I would pick anyone who I didn’t think cared or who didn’t have Huddersfield Town at heart.

“I think you’ve probably seen from my decisions in the past that if I did think that then I wouldn’t pick them.

“In fact, they wouldn’t be anywhere near the group, because running around trying hard is a prerequisite.”
