LIBRARY users in Kirklees will be able to return borrowed books from July 20 as part of a phased return to services.

It follows the easing of coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

Libraries in Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Batley, Almondbury, Slaithwaite and Rawthorpe/Dalton will be the first to reopen.

Kirklees Council, which runs libraries in the borough, says residents will also be able to order a selection of books via a

Ring and Read scheme starting on July 27.

That service will initially begin in specific libraries with the aim of expanding to all libraries by mid-August.

The council says it remains mindful of the continued threat to public health.

It says controlling the spread of the virus is critical and visitors will be reminded to stick to Government social distancing guidelines.

Clr Graham Turner, the council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate said: “Until we are able to safely reintroduce all services I would urge residents to continue to take advantage of the fantastic range of online resources for children and families including the exciting Library Adventures Live! reading programme for children.”

Libraries for return of borrowed items from week commencing July 20 are:

Almondbury: Tuesday at 10am to 1pm and Thursday at 2pm to 5pm; Batley: Tuesday and Thursday at 10am to 2pm and Friday 1pm to 5pm; Dewsbury: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10am to 3pm; Huddersfield: Monday to Friday 10am to1pm; Rawthorpe Dalton: Tuesday 10am to 12noon and Wednesday 1pm to 4pm; Slaithwaite: Monday 10am to 2pm

The council says it will release details of further services in the coming weeks.
