Outdoor gallery to reopen
YORKSHIRE’S biggest former free tourist attraction has finally announced it is reopening.
But visitors to Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) will have to pay to enter when it reopens on July 29.
The enormous outdoor art gallery, between Huddersfield and Wakefield, has been closed for months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But yesterday on Twitter deputy director Helen Featherstone announced: “I want to extend a huge thank you from everybody at YSP to you for your patience and support during these past few months whilst we’ve had to be temporarily closed.
“It now gives me great pleasure to announce that we will be opening our doors on Wednesday 29 July.”
YSP was previously free to enter on foot although there were charges to park.
But the park announced there will be a £6 charge per person, although under-16s still go free.
Ms Featherstone said: “There will be some changes; pre-booking will be essential and we’ve introduced a small price per person, as opposed to per car.”
The park is home to sculptures by some of the world’s leading artists including Antony Gormley and Ai Weiwei.
And you’ll be able to see a new collection by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos.
What you need to know - The park will be open every day from 10am to 6pm.
All tickets must be booked in advance, even free tickets for under-16s.
Face masks must be worn in all indoor areas.
