Prime candidate to spearhead Town

- By MEL BOOTH @examinerHTAFC

CARLOS Corberan is very much a man in the news as the Championship season draws to a close.

The 37-year-old Spaniard has been a key man in Leeds United’s return to the Premier League, as highlighted by Elland Road boss Marcelo Bielsa in his press conference ahead of the Charlton match.

He has worked with the club’s successful Under 23 team, too, making him a prime candidate to spearhead a new vision for Huddersfield Town at secondtier level following the dismissal of Danny and Nicky Cowley at the weekend.

Corberan is still to be announced as the new head coach at the John Smith’s Stadium, although all indications are that confirmation will be posted in the next day or two.

Huddersfield Town never make an official announcement on important team or staffing matters until signatures are on contracts and proper statements are in place for the fans.

That being the case, it is fully expected Corberan would attend Elland Road for the Charlton game rather than in London for Town’s final match against Millwall at The New Den. Leeds were presented with the Championship trophy after their match and it’s the ideal opportunity for Corberan to say his farewells.

Town put Danny Schofield in charge of their senior fixture last night, with Jon Worthington, Paul Clements and injured first-team player Tommy Elphick as his assistants.

There will now be a short break for the Town players and staff, after nine matches in 32 days, before Corberan can put his stamp on things in the transfer window and pre-season.
