Why does our local MP support the hill project?
But don’t forget your stab/bullet proof vests & don’t come in a car as there’s nowhere to park! Best come on your pushbike Boris.

REFERRING to the article ‘Time to put Castle Hill scheme out of it’s misery’ July 22) I wish to say we knew this hideous plan would be paraded once more! How many more times are the Thandi brothers going to have plans submitted? I suppose at a rental of £7.63 per annum they can afford to keep being turned down?
I would like to say I approve of the suggestion made by Clr Bernard McGuin i.e. “it’s time for the brothers to admit defeat and leave it alone”!
Although I do not profess to speak for everyone in Huddersfield, I know I speak for a sizeable majority, we still do not want an “Aldi” type building on the Hill! In fact we do not want any building at all!
Why will Kirklees council not heed what the majority of the people of Huddersfield feel?
Why does Mr. Barry Sheerman MP support this development ?
How can he say the archaeological assessments already carried out were undertaken by well-meaning amateurs? Does he actually know who carried out the assessments?
Why is it, in his words “cheeky” to ask for an assessment? Why should the National Lottery pay for it? Surely those seeking planning permission should be the ones to pay!
If Mr Sheerman is so desperate for a coffee or a glass of wine, surely there are many suitable places nearby already?
If these don’t appeal to him perhaps he could wait to visit another of our fine heritage sites, namely the George Hotel which we are “promised” will open e’er long (or not, as the case may be)?
There is one thing, however, on which we agree – Castle Hill is a national monument. This he admits. He does not stress first and foremost that the Jubilee Tower and the hill together is the favourite monument of the people of Huddersfield!
We must tell the Thandi brothers, no, we do not want you to build on the hill!
To provide widening of the road up to the hill, to provide passing points thereon, the proposed car park and the provision of services which the council require, would be the death knell for our beloved monument. Finally the erection of a monstrosity would surely kill the wildlife and the enjoyment of us who regularly use the hill!
We do not need all these facilities, as anyone who loves the hill knows. If there a handful of people who do need facilities, surely a tea van and a loo at the bottom of the hill would be sufficient!
We do not have much remaining of the old Huddersfield, please let us keep this bastion of our heritage and a little civic pride for those who care and who come after us!
Leave Castle Hill alone!
Anyone for tennis?
VLADIMIR Chernukhin (and his wife), the former deputy economics minister for Russia under President Putin, have paid the Conservative Party £205,000 to play tennis with David Cameron and Boris Johnson, £35,000 to have dinner with Gavin Williamson (yes, really!), and donated £1.7m to the Conservative Party.
One can only wonder what they are getting in return.
