‘Den of iniquity’ discovered in abandoned hall
AN urban explorer has uncovered a den of iniquity hidden in woods near one of Kirklees’ most peaceful areas.
Huddersfield’s Daniel Sims, aka Bearded Reality on social media, has become known for getting inside the town’s abandoned properties and uncovering interesting items.
While not everyone will approve of his unauthorised entry into empty buildings, his photos and videos chart the decline of the town and the state of some of our most well known and historic premises that may be lost forever.
In recent years he has explored inside the George Hotel and the former Kirklees College building.
Since lockdown was eased he has been out and about filming and has found two abandoned homes on the site of the former Storthes Hall asylum, now a student campus.
The crumbling homes in the woods have likely been untouched since the asylum closed in 1991 almost 30 years ago.

his gets spooked by a noise in the graffiti strewn property.
A second home is nicknamed ‘Tunnel Snakes House’ after the bizarre graffiti on boards covering the window.
More amusing ‘art work’ is inside along with newspapers from the mid 1990s.
While venturing into the first home alone, Daniel gets scared by a noise and decides to immediately leave.
He completes the exploration at a later date with his friend.
Daniel said: “I used to explore on my own but over time I’ve become used to exploring with other people as anything can happen in these places so I am just a bit careful and try not to take chances.
“I’ve also been a bit jumpy since the haunted abandoned care home I went in at Oakes was set on fire.”
Daniel said there didn’t appear to be any drug abuse going on at the homes, near the quaint villages of Kirkburton and Thunderbridge, but it was clear youths had been gathering inside.
Some had taken the time to bring an Ikea armchair into the home. It clearly was, or still is, a hangout of some kind.”
