New boss wants his Town side fast out of the blocks

- By MEL BOOTH @examinerHTAFC

CARLOS Corberan expects Town to be fast out of the blocks when he takes charge of pre-season training.

The 37-year-old Spaniard is keen to get cracking ahead of his first season as a boss in England.

He excels on the training ground, as illustrated by his work alongside Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United, so PPG Canalside will be his paint board for Town success.

Because of the late finish to the 2019-20 campaign in which Town avoided relegation with a game to spare, Corberan won’t have all his players back in training until August 10.

By then, he will also have his backroom team in place to work alongside the staff already preparing the Academy for next season, when Town will operate a B Team.

So how keen is Corberan to optimise the work he will do in a month-long build-up to the first Championship match on the weekend of September 12?

“I think for all the clubs this pre-season is going to be a little bit different – it’s not a normal or a typical one,” answered the boss.

“First of all, we have to take every advantage of every minute we are going to spend with the players.

“Now is the moment for rest for the majority of the players, while other players who finished their season earlier will return to the club before, to prepare for pre-season.

“We want to use in the best way we can the time that we have.

“We know that it’s going to be a long competition but a short pre-season and, at the same time, we know some of the players have only just finished, so they are not going to need the same time to be at good fitness levels to face the games.

“So we will use the time to develop the football ideas fast, and in the best way we can do it.”
