Youth will be key for Town under new boss - Brown
NO-ONE could be better than Carlos Corberan to spearhead Huddersfield Town’s new Championship project.
That’s the view of former Leeds United and Sheffield United midfielder Michael
Brown, 43, who is now a popular pundit.
Brown has monitored Town’s swoop for the 37-year-old Spaniard as head coach at the John Smith’s Stadium following the sacking of previous boss Danny Cowley.
He has also noted the links being made to youth players at Elland Road who came under Corberan’s wing during his years at the club, including midfielder Robbie Gotts, keeper Kamil Miazek, attacker Mateusz Bogusz, former Forest Green midfielder Jordan Stevens plus Holland Youth defender Pascal Struijk and Geordie Leif Davies.
Town are committed to developing their own products, meaning any signings from elsewhere would have to be significant improvements on the first-team pool, and Brown believes they are well set with Corberan and the backroom staff he is expected to bring in.
“We’re going to see youth at Huddersfield for certain,” Brown told Football Insider.
“They’ve got a young coach and a good set up. Leigh Bromby is there as director of football and they are looking to recruit. I know everyone is working hard.
“It’ll be tough for them because the models that are about in terms of youth and bringing people through, so I think it’s the perfect appointment to try and do that.
“Obviously, he knows the young players very well and has a great link to Leeds so Gotts will have the confidence to go and play for somebody like that.”
HUDDERSFIELD Town supporters have been hearing all sorts of rumours of raids on Leeds United since the appointment of Carlos Corberan as head coach at the John Smith’s Stadium.
It’s perhaps no surprise, given Corberan’s time at Elland Road under Marcelo Bielsa - taking charge of the Under-23s and working closely with the Championship-winning first-team squad.
The 6ft 5in goalkeeper Kamil Miazek was one of the first to be touted for a move down the M62,
