Fans may be back soon - but you can’t sing!

- By JOHN McDOUGALL

TOWN Fans could be banned from chanting in a bid to reduce the chances of coronavirus spreading upon the return of supporters to stadiums.

The Terriers are set to start the new campaign on September 12, but with games still being played behind closed doors.

Lockdown measures are being slowly eased and a pilot programme of sporting events to test the safe return of spectators is beginning from today.

It will take place at the final of the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible in Sheffield, with a further full programme to follow including rugby games and horse racing.

The Prime Minister’s office says there is a ‘view to reopening competition venues for sports fans’ from October 1, with social distancing measures in place

Reports claim that supporters could have to sign up to a code of conduct before getting their hands on match tickets.

One of these claimed measures mentioned could be that no chanting or singing takes place during games in a bid to curb a further spread of the virus.

In America’s MLS, fans have signed waivers so they would not take legal action against either the league or its clubs if they were to contract Covid-19 following attending a match.

It is reported that if the pilot events are successful, fans ‘may’ be back in football stadiums by September 12 or ‘soon after’.

Potential measures include numbers of supporters being limited and spread out throughout a ground to achieve social distancing, as well as one way entry, staggered entry and exit times, and hand sanitiser facilities.
