Cardiff boss expecting Town target to leave

-

HUDDERSFIELD Town transfer target Danny Ward has been praised for his loyalty by Cardiff City boss Neil Harris - even though he expects the player to move north.

Harris played Ward in the Championship play-offs and thanked the 28-year-old for his commitment - especially with a summer move so obviously on the cards.

Ward committed his shortterm future to the club by seeing out the season, but WalesOnline report he’s now seeking a switch and Town are strongly linked under new boss Carlos Corberan. Harris said of Ward: “I think he will [leave]. Me and him have a fantastic relationship. We’ve been aware for a little bit of time now that Danny Ward might leave us. Being out-of-contract naturally comes with interest.

“He’s been very loyal to me after lockdown where he could easily have made the same decision as others lads in the game have to not play, but he stayed and worked great for us, and personally as well by scoring a couple of goals.”

Town have been trailing Ward, who scored eight goals in 33 appearances all told for Cardiff last season. He previously spent four years at the John Smith’s Stadium and has a home in the area.

“Danny is a northern lad. He’s got a young, beautiful family and sometimes, location and contract status dictates what you do in football,” said Harris.

“If Danny is to leave us, it’ll be sad for me because I enjoy working with him but also I fully understand that sometimes you have to move on and do what’s best for you family wise.”
