Gary’s a little distant on his big day

-

Corrie pulls off a soap wedding amid covid-19 restrictions, but the pandemic is not the only reason the groom seems far away... he’s still in love with his ex, Sarah!

GRAB the confetti, Coronation Street is set for its 96th wedding next week as Maria Connor prepares to marry badboy Gary Windass. And although the hairdresser might be Gary’s bride, these days it seems he only has eyes for his ex – Sarah, who he recently saved from a car accident.

Samia Longchambon says filming her character Maria’s wedding to Gary, played by Mikey North, was “really tricky” due to social distancing.

They had appear to be touching, despite the actors having to remain two metres apart.

Samia, 38, says: “The director shot it really cleverly so hopefully it doesn’t look like we’re too far apart saying our vows.

“It was a bit tricky making it look like we were closer together – and putting the ring on, that was really tricky.

“It actually looks like we’re putting the ring on to each other’s hands but the camera cuts away and obviously we were nowhere near each other. You just see me have the ring and reach towards Mikey and then you see him fiddling with it as though I’ve put it on his hand.”

Wedding jitters:

Maria marries Gary without knowing he is responsible for the deaths of loan shark Rick Neelan, who he killed in self defence, and Rana Habeeb, who died when he tampered with the factory roof and it collapsed.

Samia said: “I think she’d be furious and devastated she’s potentially about to be married to a murderer.

“Especially after her first husband, Liam, was murdered and she got engaged to his killer.

“She’s not got a great track record with murderers. I think she’d run a mile if she actually found out the truth.”

Elsewhere, Seb has another reason to moan at his mum. They are supposed to say goodbye to the twins before the kids begin a new life in Australia, but unknown to him, Abi is trapped at the garage.

Just watch his face when he realises a car engine has put her in hospital.

Tim is pretty unhappy with the way his dad spoke to Sally, so they’ve decided to stay with Gina instead.

Todd is (almost) in touch with Eileen, looking for money. However, Mary and Sean intercept the letter first, and hatch a plan. And Paul is miffed about his pending 30th birthday; he thinks nobody cares, but Billy wants to surprise him.
