FOR WARD MARCH!

DANNY’S BACK AS TOWN MAKE FIRST SIGNING OF THE SUMMER

-

primarily a winger, he made 140 appearances for the Terriers between 2011 and 2015, scoring 21 goals.

Head coach Carlos Corberan, who it is understood has signed Ward as a centre-forward, said: “We are really happy to add Danny to our squad, he’s a very interesting player with a lot of experience at this club and in this league.

“He’s really ambitious and when a player wants to come back to a club it’s because he feels something special about being a Terrier and feels that he still has something important to give to the fans.

“As a striker he gives us a lot of options, he makes very intelligent runs, looks always for the long option, and will help us in the buildphase because he’s good with the ball when he comes deep.”

Head of football operations Leigh Bromby revealed Town fought off interest from other clubs to get Ward.

He said: “It’s rare to find a player of Danny Ward’s age, and with his experience, as a free agent.

“It’s no surprise he had offers from several other clubs, but he wanted to come back to Huddersfield Town. He has a wealth of experience and will be a real benefit to us, not only on the pitch, but in the dressing room as well.”

After leaving Town, Ward spent two-and-a-half seasons with Rotherham United then joined Cardiff, helping them gain promotion to the Premier League.

Ward faces competition from Fraizer Campbell and Steve Mounie for the sole striker role in Corberan’s favoured 4-3-3 system.

Last season’s top scorer Karlan Grant hit 19 goals for Town but was generally preferred on the left wing rather than as a central striker for the majority of last season, while Mounie and Campbell scored just 11 goals between them: eight for Mounie, three for Campbell.
