numerous offers for Ramadan Sobhi from Egypt and elsewhere.

But Corberan has also revealed that right-back Florent Hadergjonaj has not been part of pre-season training thus far as he works to try and secure a move elsewhere. Greek giants Olympiakos are rumoured to be interested in the Kosovo international.

Speaking at his first press conference as Town head coach, he said: “I [haven’t been able to] work with Flo or with Ramadan – or with Kongolo, because Kongolo is here in the club but has an injury.

“The other players, Flo and Ramadan, are players that I think are very close to leaving the club.

“I am now just focusing on the players that we have here in the squad.

“I think the idea the club has is that these players [Sobhi and Hadergjonaj] want to have offers and the club is in negotiations over opportunities for them to go to other clubs.”

Corberan also revealed that several key players - including player of the year Lewis O’Brien and stalwart Jonathan Hogg - have picked up injuries in pre-season training.

The would leave Town short of options in several positions as it stands, with Juninho Bacuna, Matty Daly and Alex Pritchard their only central midfield options, just Christopher Schindler and Richard Stearman available at centre-back, and Ben Hamer the sole fit senior goalkeeper at the club.

Asked if players would nonetheless need to leave the club before new faces can be brought in, Corberan hinted that he could do with more players, not fewer.

He said: “I think it’s important to have a full picture of the team first of all.

“We are trying to see where we have some weaknesses trying to cover - weakness talking not about the level of the player, more about the needs of the players we are going to need, because I think we are going to face a different Championship this year.

“It’s a different Championship because we are going to play the same number of games but we are going to do it in less time.

“So I think this year the Championship is going to be even more demanding and it’s going to create more tough competition.

“At the same time, everyone was ready to face the number of injuries and unfortunately this year we also have to face Covid, which is a problem for everyone, not just football players.”
